Cherry Tree Allotment

I will always remember the first time I saw this allotment and my heart sank I never thought we would knock it into shape in two years let alone one.  It has come on leaps and bounds.

People donated a shed, two greenhouses and some pavers and with the help of lots of willing volunteers it at last looks like an  allotment.

It has been an interesting year finding out what will and will not grow, selling our produce at our Table Top Sales and growing on our own plug plants and seeds to use in the tubs around the village and sell the surplus.
Last year another allotment holder offered us a piece of land. By this time we 'seasoned allotment holders' were able to tackle this piece without  a qualm. It has been turned into a soft fruit area which should be in full production in two years.

2011 the work continues.  Fence is erected, fruit trees and fruit bushes planted last Autumn are waking up.  We made a fruit cage over the fruit bushes to stop the pesky birds pinching our fruit!!  The greenhouses will be full to bursting with bedding plants, tomato and strawberry baskets later in the year for the May and June Plant stall at the Monthly Table top sales. We've even aquired another half allotment so we have that to plant up this year too!!

None of this would have been possible without the band of willing volunteers who dug, weeded, planted, watered, erected greenhouses, made coffee and much more.
